October 12, 1904. A group of Smurfs came to Korea after seeing an advertisement for recruiting architects to build the Belgian consulate building. After the beautiful building was completed, what happened to them? <Blue Land> rewrites the history of a building that was left as a strange remnant of redevelopment. Cartoon characters appearing as narrators of the story evoke those who have been deprived of their place in modern Korean history by changing their bodies into various roles, such as workers, migrants, and sometimes subjects of violence.

Focusing on text, Youngle Keem works by weaving media such as video, publication, photography, and installation. Keem is interested in the back side of social and cultural phenomena, and focuses on the relationship between fiction and fact, and between language and image. She has been working on trying to ‘reread’ and ‘rewrite’ the accumulated historical and personal data while weaving them into a new story. Since 2019, she has been operating a self-publishing studio, Sails and Anchor, exploring the interface between art and publishing.
